Message from Chief William F.
Galvin, Jr.
On
behalf of the men and women of the North Bergen
Police Department, I am pleased to welcome you to
our web site. We appreciate your interest in the
North Bergen Police Department and encourage you to
visit us here on a regular basis.
The number one priority of the
North Bergen Police Department is to build community
partnerships that reduce crime and improve the
safety and stability of our neighborhoods. Utilizing
a philosophy of community policing and a commitment
to providing excellence in service, our police
department is eager to accept the challenges facing
law enforcement in the 21st century.
The Patrol Division handles
the majority of the Police Department's annual calls
for service. In 2006, the North Bergen Police
Department handled 61,660 calls. Our Patrol Division
focuses on improvements in the quality of life for
our residents, businesses, and visitors. The North
Bergen Police Department's Detective Bureau works in
conjunction with the Patrol Division and is
responsible for the general and forensic
investigation of crimes. In addition our department
also has many specialized divisions created to help
prevent certain types of crime, also focusing on
specific issues within our Township. These divisions
handle various assignments including, but not
limited to, DARE education, motor vehicle theft,
Megan's law registration, gang and juvenile related
issues, homeland security, traffic complaints, and
community oriented policing.
The dedicated men and women of
the North Bergen Police Department work tirelessly
in an effort to reduce crime in the Township of
North Bergen and are encouraged to cultivate a
partnership between our Department and the residents
and business community which it serves.
It is with the full support
Mayor Nicholas J. Sacco, Public Safety Commissioner
Theresa V. Ferraro, and the entire Board of
Commissioners that the North Bergen Police
Department is able to help ensure that the Township
of North Bergen is a great place to live, work and
shop.
I encourage you to browse our
web site and learn about the many facets of law
enforcement within our community. If you have you
any questions or concerns, please feel free to
contact us.
Very truly yours,
William F. Galvin, Jr.
